Hey, I'm a cartoonist, not a reporter...I'm not so good at writing news items. But I can tell you this: the theme of this week's comic strip is all about control. Or the illusion of it. Or the genuine lack of it. Or the fools it makes out of it. Good times...
To be honest, I have some thinking to do if I want to make it a theme for the whole week, because I haven't even thought about Friday's strip. :-0 Feel free to speculate about the events of my life that have driven me toward this week's theme. I'm not trying to be coy--the truth is, my life is not all that interesting right now. Although, I did just read a little bit of Victor Frankl's "Man's Search For Meaning,", (which I often turn to for good webcomic material :-/) and came upon this passage: "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others and giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in numbers but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken away from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms--to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
Maybe this is why I don't write news items that often...
But holy crap, what a powerful reflection on humanity and the choices that we actually have! I don't think my cartoons give these realities their due, but it is what I have been chewing on all week.
Cross your fingers that I come up with something for Friday...
And, hey, has anyone else noticed that I am coming up on my 200th cartoon?
Much love and gratitude,
The Thinking Man's Elephant
